Lima, Peru with Kids: The Best Playgrounds + Parks in La Molina
Our four favorite spots for wonderful (and free!) outdoor shenanigans in our neighborhood
We’ve lived in Lima for almost a year, first in the very urban coastal Miraflores neighborhood (where parks abound) but we’ve now settled closer to the foothills of the Andes Mountains n the neighborhood of La Molina. We’ve found that most of the info online for things to do with kids focuses on the coast (Barranca & Miraflores). We’ve taken the time to scout out a number of parks in our never-ending quest to keep the kids burning off their bountiful energy, and wanted to make it easy for other families in the future to find these gems for their littles.
Here we’ve pulled together our favorite playgrounds and parks in and around La Molina, meaning “the Hill” because its over a “hill” (read: mountain) from most of the rest of Lima. We’ve linked each park to its Google Maps page for easy navigation. We hope you love these parks as much as we do! As ever in Lima, we highly recommend hats, sunscreen, and lots of water for any outdoor adventuring!

A park truly aimed at children with a 3 story slide structure at its center, a smaller playground structure for little kids, and numerous other fun options including a long, colorful tube slide down a little hill and bouncy animals to ride. Our kids are happy here for hours while we sit under the shade of the many trees. The whole park is fenced too so if you have littles who are runners its easy to keep them safe from the road.
This park combines the best things: a fun playground and swings; over 10 awesome restaurants/shops steps away; AND at least 8 massive boulders that our kids love the challenge of climbing. We often combine breakfast or lunch at a restaurant with a long time at this park - it makes for a lovely time. Don’t be intimidated by the gate - park by the shops and walk through.
The 2 playground structures here are fine. What really makes this park fun are the ruins of the ancient huaca (temple) that you’re allowed to venture onto (on the paths, of course)., making your kids mini Indiana Jones-es. There isn’t much shade here, so extra emphasis on the hats and sunscreen. There are lots of great restaurants nearby for any time of day. There's also a (rarely spotted) La Molina sign here for a fun family photo.
While of humbler construction (mostly wood), the multiple different play structures here are a hit with our kids (who love claiming a “base” as their own).
P.S. There are seven more great parks just over the “hill” in the neighboring Surco are - we cover those in our Surco post here!
